Fintern Fever @ Stone & Chalk, Sydney (25/11/2015)

When 100 immaculately tailored students rocked up to startup hub Stone & Chalk for Fintern Fever, we knew we’d hit the jackpot for sourcing new talent.

S&C hosted the speed dating and pitching event to recruit 30 interns for its brand new Summer Fintech program, in partnership with Finsia and Committee for Sydney. Fintern Fever also marked the launch of Ribit’s Alpha platform, with more than 400 students signing up in just two weeks.

Alex Scandurra, CEO of S&C, described the Fintern Fever opportunity as exposing students to the art of the possible in pursuing an entrepreneurial career.

“Our startups similarly benefit, as they are now able to access top Australian talent that was previously beyond their reach.”

The day itself produced a flurry of energy, kicking off with startup pitches followed by eight rounds of speed dating.

For 30 students, this was just the start. They spent the next two months immersed in fintech culture, while also being offered bespoke mentoring, seminars and classes. This culminated in a pitch night, with each student offered two minutes to pitch their startup to a crowd which included government and industry reps.

It’s safe to say the young guns blitzed it. To the point where several startups commented on how they had never been better represented.

Fast forward to 2016 and many of the “Finterns” are still with their companies.

We do enjoy a happy ending.
