AustCyber Speed Networking @ SSE, Sydney (07/12/2017)

Data61’s Ribit kicked off its new partnership with AustCyber (the Australian Cybersecurity Growth Centre) on December 7 in style at the Sydney School of Entrepreneurship. AustCyber CEO Craig Davies spoke at the event and said he was excited to be partnering with Ribit to try address the massive growth in demand for cybersecurity skills.

AustCyber COO Michelle Price rallied the room with a resounding “Game On” and with the clang of the first bell, more than 120 NSW regional and metro students, businesses and industry mentors came together for 10 rounds of speed dating.

Companies large and small attended – from Optus, Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks, to Aura, Shearwater and Hivint.

“I love to challenge myself intellectually and taking part in things that will broaden my knowledge and wanted to say thanks (Ribit) for your help at the event. I feel your support allowed me to approach employers to the best of my ability,” said Security Studies undergrad, Georgia Turnham, Macquarie University.

Special mention to the Head of Human Resources at Hivint represented by Sarah Oquist, who in costume won Best Pitch of the event.  She said” The Ribit event was a great opportunity to understand the future generation of Cyber experts, how they are thinking and about their motivations for being in the industry. For Hivint, a unique opportunity to look for Bees for our Hive!”

This event was just the first of a suite of events to take place in 2018 across capital cities and regional centres in each state and territory.  Stay tuned for future announcements and upcoming events early next year. Watch this space: http://ribit.net/events
